The biggest transfer of the week is Helen Obiri, 2-time Olympic medalist! Has moved from Nike to On?!?! Let’s hope they have some good shoes soon!
A big week for Adidas with the official announcements of Archie Davis, Phil Sesemann, Whittini Orton Morgan, Emile Cairess and Darragh McElhinney.
Nia Wedderburn-Goodison signs with Nike. The 17-year-old ran 7.28 for 60m before Christmas, when she was just 16. This time is below the qualifying standard for the Senior World indoor championships this March.

3:54 Miles, one converted, one negative split
Nico Young broke the NAU school record, as well as the facility record by running 4:02.89 at 7000 feet of altitude. Which converts to a 3:54.07 at sea level. Although I believe this is just as impressive as a 3:54 mile, you’ve also got to consider the fact that Nico’s leg speed will have still been 4:02 pace and not 3:54. And for someone who trains at altitude and is more aerobically inclined, an altitude Mile probably suits Nico more than others. None the less very very impressive.
Yared Nuguse ran a standard 3:54 mile after opening the first half Mile in 1:59. The Olympian looks to be an early favourite going into the NCAA indoor season.
Osian Perrin British record for 3000m
Osian Perrin a triathlete just lowered his own British record at the World indoor tour in Manchester. Running a 7:54, it now ranks him 3rd in European all time. Behind Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Joel Ibler Lilleso. The latter Osian beat in the race at Manchester.
We spoke to him after his British record to ask what his favourite 3000m session was. He said; 15 x 300m with alternating recovery. 40 seconds, 30 seconds, 20 seconds repeated. Starting at 47s and brining it down to 45s.
Selemon Barega World record attempt
10000m Olympic champion Barega announces he will be going for the 3000m World record at the World indoor tour in Lievin. This is the same event Jakob Ingebrigtsen will be going for the indoor 1500m World record.
Zatopek 10000m
As we are writing this, the Zatopek 10000m has just taken place in Australia. Rose Davies makes it back to back Victories in the Women’s race. As Jack Rayner gets his first victory with a brave push for home with 3 laps to go.

Nike Streakfly first impressions
Reviewers are getting their hands on the Nike streakfly. It’s just a shame every shoe reviewer I’ve seen has taken them out for an easy run, rather than tested them for their purpose. The consensus seems to be they’re comfortable and noticeably less shoe than the Vaporfly next%. But from what I’ve been told they won’t even replace the Next% for 5K road races. Nevermind the 5k – 10K range we were all hoping for.
The Lilac Grand Prix is coming Feb 11, 2022.
