NIKE STREAKFLY IS HERE… well almost
Nike have officially posted to Instagram marketing the Streakfly. Release dates seem to be in February for the Prototype colourway and March for the official colourway.
But on Nike’s Instagram they have said it will be available this month. There’s only 11 days left in the month of January, so can we have it VERY SOON?!
Sara Hall Half marathon American record
Sara now joins her husband Ryan Hall as the American record holders in the Half marathon distance. I assume this feat of a married couple holding both records has never been done before, so it is a World first.
Sara Hall ran 67:15 in Houston to knock 10 seconds off Molly Huddle’s previous mark from 2018. What makes this even more special is that the Hall’s broke the record on the same course!
Other key points from Houston were:
An athlete who is also now coached by Ryan Hall is Rory Linkletter. He set a Canadian half marathon record of 1:01:08.
My new favourite running team Roots, put on quite a show with Sydney Gidabuday running 61:09 (1 minute 23 second PB). And in the Marathon distance Maggie Montoya ran 2:29:09 in her debut. Frank Lara and Luke Caldwell were hard to separate running 2:11:32 and 2:11:33.
Pat Tiernan ran a half marathon personal best of 1:00:55 to finish 6th. It was his debut run for his new sponsor Puma.
Full results can be found here.
Keira D’Amato Marathon American record
Keira is not in the Worlds team for the marathon this year, which shows the depth of Women’s American distance running. D’amato is a 37 year old mother of 2, who is a full time realtor. After falling back in love with the sport she now is the fastest American to run the marathon ever. This adds to her 10 Mile world record.
The time of 2:19:12 will be tough to beat in the coming years, but with the likes of Sara Hall and Molly Seidel, I see this record changing hands a lot in the near future.
Union Track club debuts – Includes Jessica Hulls 3000m national record
There’s a lot to talk about here, so instead of going on and on, we’re just going to show the results of races that featured union track club athletes…
Strava legend Jake Smith joins NNrunning team
Jake Smith who has recently announced he will be targeting the British record has joined the amazing NNrunning team. If there is anyone that can get him to beat Mo Farah’s half marathon British record it is Joshua Cheptegei. Who is Jakes current training partner as he is based In Uganda.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen World record attempt
Jakob Ingebrigtsen Will be going for the 1500m Indoor World record next month at the World indoor tour in Lievin. He’s currently on an altitude training camp in Sierra Nevada, Spain.
Whilst we’re on the subject of indoor World records, Olympic Silver medalist Laura Muir says she will be targeting the 1000m Indoor World record at the Indoor Muller Grand prix.
World Athletics has launched 'Road to Oregon', an online tool
To help athletes, fans and media track the qualification process for the World Athletics Championships Oregon22.
Searchable by event, country and qualification status, the tool provides a real-time view of each event over the course of the qualification period, which ends on 26 June 2022 (29 May 2022 for the marathon and 35km race walk). The World Championships will be held from 15-24 July 2022.
Athletes are able to qualify through one of four ways: by achieving an entry standard, by virtue of their placing at area championships or Platinum Label marathons (considered as having achieved the entry standard), by wild card entry or by world rankings position.
At the end of the qualification period, based on target numbers for each event, World Athletics will determine the number of athletes with an entry standard, eligible wild cards, and universality places. Any remaining places within an event’s target number will then be allocated to athletes based on their world rankings position to complete the field in that specific event.
Should the target number of athletes in any event be reached, or surpassed, through entry standards, wild cards and universality places, no other athletes would qualify by virtue of their world rankings position.
The Road to Oregon tool is only intended to give an overview of which athletes are in a qualifying position; it doesn’t, and will not, indicate which athletes have been selected by their member federation. Final entries will be published nearer to the time of the championships.
Christian Coleman runs his first race since Anti-doping suspension
With a 33.20 300m. I have no concept on how this converts to a 60m indoor time, especially for someone who’s strengths seem to lie in the 60m and 100m. Could we see a 100m/200m double attempt for the World championships in Oregon? It seems increasingly difficult with the depth in American sprinting at the minute.
Bitesize News
Jessica Judd (GBR) becomes the 3rd Woman in history to run a sub 2:00 800m and a sub 68 half marathon. The only two other runners to complete this feat are often regarded as some of the best in history. Genzebe Dibaba and Siffan Hassan.
Athing Mu a 400m/800m runner runs the mile? Athing solo’d a mile. Considering how easy she made it, poses the question of does she have a future in the 1500M?! Maybe she should go for the 400m/800m/1500m triple.
Ben Flanagan announced that he’d no longer be competing for the Reebok Boston Track Club. He has instead joined On running.
